SEERIH is a research-informed and research-informing organisation. Our key areas of research interest include: teacher professional learning, child-led learning, wonder-filled science education, personal capabilities, primary school engineering education, cross-sector science transition.
With a resident Research Associate, research outputs include professional and academic papers, articles, presentations and publications.
Our research projects
Supported by the Primary Science Teaching Trust, this research project focuses on the impact of developing routines for children’s scientific questioning at Key Stage 2. Building on many years of constructivist pedagogies, the team uses learning from wonder-filled science learning and deep dives to address the increased expectation of child-led learning for teachers.
The Trajectory of Professional Development demonstrates how teachers engage with collaborative professional learning pathways. It underpins the SEERIH programme of learning to increase teacher identity with science and communities of practice in STEM.
Supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Comino Foundation and the University of Winchester, Tinkering-for-Learning began in 2015 as the Tinker Tailor Robot Pi project. It add to current research knowledge and enhances policy for primary and Key Stage 3 engineering education.

'Progressing to be an Engineer' takes forward our research, and outlines a framework of progression for engineering education in Key Stages 1-3.
This research area explores the impact of cross-sector collaboration on teaching and learning in STEM subjects in a University setting. It builds upon Across the Divide, and Mind the Gap CHERIL projects. These studies examine the transition from primary and secondary school science and engineering education into Higher Education, through the collaboration of teachers across all sectors. Lesson Study and Action Learning Sets offer rich opportunities for knowledge exchange.
